The Archangel Michael

About Archangel Michael

Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church serves the Orthodox Christians of West Central Florida. The parish was founded in 1981 under the auspices of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Atlanta under the spiritual jurisidiction of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople.

We are a Greek Orthodox Church - which means we are happy to be a part of the oldest Christian tradition - dating from the day of Pentecost.  Our roots eminate from the Church founded by the Apostle Andrew in the City of Constantinople (now Istanbul) in the year 37 A.D.  Click here to learn more about the Church of Constantinople.

Archangel Michael serves the Orthodox Christians of Citrus County and communities in the surrounding areas of Hernando, Sumter, Lake and Marion counties.

Although most members are of the Greek ethnic background, the community is comprised of Albanians, Serbians, Russians, Romanians, Ukrainians and American Converts. Services are conducted primarily in English.

Apolytikion of the Archangels Michael and Gabriel ---

"You the Marshalls of the heavenly armies, we implore though being unworthy, that with your prayers you fortify us, under the shelter of your wings, of your spiritual glory, guarding us as we fall before you, and incessantly cry: Redeem from dangers all of us, as the Commanders of the heavenly powers."

Apolytikion of the Archangel Michael -------

"O Michael, Leader of Hosts, who beholds things indescribable, since you are preferred with great privilege to the Heavenly Ones, and stands in glory before the unapproachable Throne, we beseech you by your intercessions to save us, who endure the hardships and tribulations and temptations."

As we move into May we are beginning to see a relaxation of the “stay-at-home” orders.  Although participation in church services has been exempted as an essential activity, we continue to encourage the safety and well-being of all our parishioners.

The outbreak of the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) requires our parish members to be cautious and considerate knowing that we must do our part to prevent spread of this virus. As we continue to pray each Sunday for each and every parishioner as well as the well being of all mankind until we pass beyond the period of concern for COVID-19 we are also keeping our parishioners safe. While specific services will be kept open to those few who choose to come to and participate in the Divine Liturgy, should any parishioner present symptoms including, fever, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, chills, repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, new loss of taste or smell or been in direct contact with a COVID-19+ individual they must refrain from attending services for the period of time directed by the medical authorities and the CDC.  For those who choose to attend we ask that you keep at least 6 ft distancing between you and the person next to you.  Trays are not passed during this crisis.  We ask those who wish to drop their stewardship off at the church to place it in the candle collection tray in the Narthyx.  If you choose to stop by and light a candle and depart, we welcome you to do so observing all precautionary measures. The key element is social distancing and each and every person’s safety.

Let us please continue our faithful giving in our stewardship commitments to our parish during this crisis.  With faith, love and wisdom we will pull through this together!

NOTEThe Metropolis of Atlanta has put out additional guiidance that we have participated in along with all other parishes of the Metropolis.  These guidelines provide for uniformity while ensuring we have flexibility to adapt to changing local conditions and regulations.  Our community will re-open fully effective May 31.  All services will be provided in accordance with the guidelines fromt he Metropolis.  Coffee Hour and Social activities continue to be suspended at this time.  Please pay attention to the guidance provided and requested by attendants.

As we abide by these guidelines you will notice certain practices which may appear different from our standard Orthodox tradition.  These practices have been outlined by the Metropolis for all parishes to ensure the safety of all our parishioners.
